OK, so text doesn't work on cable so we can't use the usual 888 for
subtitles. I can't spot anything in interactive that suggests you can
get subtitles through that (although as it crashes every few minutes
that's not much help anyway).

So, can we get subtitles on NTL or are they sticking two fingers up at
the various discrimination guidelines?

doubt it, most of the smaller co. ones don't as the original was not made
with subtitles so it costs too much for them to do it.

888 works for me, although not on UK Historyof course as I'm sure they don't
have a teletext service
